Esslingen
Esslingen, on the Neckar, a town of Wiirtemberg in Germany, seven miles S.E. of Stuttgart. It is a walled town, and is defended by a castle. Among its public buildings are a Gothic church, with a tower 230 feet high, two town halls, and an ancient monastery. There are manufactures of machines, philosophical instruments, cutlery, articles in gold, silver, wood, and tin, and there are paper and spinning mills. In the Middle Ages Esslingen was an imperial free town.
