Elburz, the highest summit of the Caucasus. in lat. 43° 21' N, and long. 40° 5' E" about 140 miles N.W. of Tiflis.'is situated on a high plateau.

Elburz itself is over 18,000 feet high and is of volcanic origin, and is easy of access.
