Dyne, the centiuietre-gramme-second unit of force - that is to say, it is a unit of force chosen SO as to have simple relationship to the above-mentioned units of length, mass, and time. It is defined as the force that will in one second give a mass of one gramme a speed of one centimetre per second. It corresponds to the English poundal, which is based on the foot-pound-second-system.
