Durango
Durango, called also Ciudad de Victoria, a town of Mexico 500 miles N.W. of Mexico, founded in 1559, and situated on a plateau 6,700 feet above sea-level. It is well built, and has a cathedra], mint, theatre, tramways, and telephones. The state of the same name is traversed by the Sierra Madre, and has an area of 54,000 square miles. Some iron and nickel of supposed aerolitic origin is found.
