Duisburg
Duisburg, a walled town in Westphalia, N. Germany, situated on a canal connected with the
Rhine, about 15 miles N. of Dusseldorf. Its population is engaged in ship-building and the manufacture of silk, woollen, and cotton fabrics, as, well as soap, leather, starch, and tobacco. It possesses an observatory and gymnasium, but the university was abolished in 1802 after an existence of 150 years.
