Dobson William Charles
Dobson, William Charles, R.A., was born in 1817. He showed an early taste for art, and after studying at the British Museum, entered as a student at the Royal Academy in 1836. In 1843 he was appointed headmaster of the Government School of Design at Birmingham. This post he resigned two years later, and went to Italy and Germany to study. He became A.R.A. in 1860, and R.A. in 1873, being also a member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours.
