Discoideas
Discoideas, a family of Siphonophora (q.v.) in which the body (or technically the "coenosarc") has a disc-like form; in the best known genus, Velella, this disc bears a strong vertical crest. Like all its allies of this group the Discoideae are free swimming, and live upon the surface of the tropical and subtropical oceans.
