Desmotropy

Desmotropy, Desmotropism. Certain chemical compounds appear in different conditions to possess different constitutions. Thus the body in most of its reactions appears to have a certain constitution, the stabile form; but other reactions can only, or best, be explained on the assumption of a different constitution, the labile form. To this remarkable phenomenon Victor Meyer gave the name desmotropy. It is more frequently known as tantomerism.
