De Bary
De Bary, Heinrich Anton (1831-1888), a German botanist born at Frankfort-on-Main. Educated at Heidelberg and Berlin, he began in 1853 to practise as a doctor at Frankfort, but the next year became a privat docent, or University lecturer, at Tubingen. In 1855 he was appointed Professor of Botany at Freiburg, and in 1867 he went to Halle. In 1872 he became rector of the University of Strasburg, where he remained till his death. He was an authority upon fungi, and his Lectures on Bacteria, Morphology of Plants, and Comparative Anatomy of Phanerogams and Ferns have been translated into English.
