Damiani
Damiani, Pietro (1007-1072), an ecclesiastic who, born at Ravenna, rose from being a swineherd to the dignity of Cardinal and Bishop of Ostia in 1057. He was a great supporter of Hildebrand (Gregory VII., q.v.), by whom he was employed on many important missions. Among his writings are many Letters and Speeches.
