Damascening

Damascening is a term given to the process of producing a variegated appearance on the surface of steel by combining it irregularly with iron and by subsequent treatment of the surface with acid. The word is also used to denote the Indian Kuft-work, in which gold and silver wire is inlaid in the surface of the metal.
