Cryptomeria
Cryptomeria, a genus of Coniferae, belonging to the sub-order Taxodineae, and native to Japan. Its leaves are short, linear, and rigid, crowded and spreading. The flowers are monoecious, the male ones having peltate stamens each with five pollen sacs at its base, and the small globular female cones having four to six winged seeds in the axil of each scale. Cryptomeria is hardy and often reaches a large size in English pinetums.
