Comnenus
Comnenus, a family which furnished six emperors to the Byzantine throne, from 1057 to 1185, viz. Isaac I., Alexis I., John II., Manuel I., Alexis II., and Andronicus I. After the Crusaders had overthrown the power of the Comneni in Byzantium, they established themselves on the throne of Trebizond, and held the reins of government there until 1204. The last ruler of the house was David Comnenus, who, with his family, was executed in 1461 at Adrianople by command of Mohammed II.
