Child Francis James

Child, Francis James, was born in 1825 at Boston, Massachusetts. Educated at Harvard, where he afterwards became a teacher, he in 1848 made his first appearance as an author in his Four Old Plays. Ten years later, however, his English and Scottish Ballads made a palpable mark as the leading collection of English ballad poetry.
