Chagres

Chagres, a town of the United States of Colombia on the N. coast of the Isthmus of Panama, 12 miles from Colon, and at the mouth of the Chagres river. At the time of the Californian gold fever Chagres was of much importance, but is now decayed, especially since the opening of the railway from Panamato Aspinwall. The Panama Canal for part of its course follows the Chagres Valley.
