Carbon Monoxide
Carbon Monoxide, or Carbonic Oxide, is produced when carbonaceous matters burn in a quantity of oxygen insufficient for the formation of the dioxide. It is produced also when carbonic acid passes over heated charcoal, and is hence often found in the gases from coke stoves. It is very poisonous, as it forms a compound with the haemoglobin of the blood with expulsion of the oxygen.
