Canaletto Antonio

Canaletto, Antonio, painter, was born in 1697 at Venice, his real name being Canale. He studied at Rome, giving particular attention to the effects of light and shade, in which he became an adept. His pictures of Venice are very famous. He was the first artist to use the camera obscura for perspective. He died in 1768, having won riches and renown.
