Cabral
Cabral (or Cabrera), Pedro Alvarez, a Portuguese navigator, was born about the year 1460. In attempting to find a western passage to India, he sighted and was driven on the coast of Brazil on April 24th. 1500, and has some claims to be regarded as its discoverer, although similar claims are advanced on behalf of Pincon. He afterwards voyaged to India, where he concluded, on behalf of Portugal, the first commercial treaty with the native princes. He also made discoveries on the African coast. He is supposed to have died in 1526. An account of his work will be found in Ramusio's Navigazioni e Viaggi (1563).
