Bunion

Bunion, a term applied to a swelling produced by the development of a bursa over the great toe joint. The pressure of a badly-fitting boot is particularly apt to lead to mischief in this region of the foot. The great toe becomes distorted and half dislocated, and over the prominence of the joint where pressure is most felt a bursa (q.v.) forms, and this may or may not communicate with the joint itself. A well-fitting boot is the only preventive of troubles of this kind.
