Brucine
Brucine,an alkaloid found with several others in nux vomica and St. Ignatius' bean. It crystallises in prisms, soluble in water and alcohol, and is characterised by giving a fine red colour with nitric acid. It is closely allied in its action to strychnine (q.v.), but is more readily soluble than the latter.
