Brienz

Brienz, town in Switzerland, at the foot of the Brienzergrat (Bernese Alps), on the N.E. of the lake of Brienz, and 30 miles from Berne. It is of wood, with picturesque houses, and from the cemetery may be had a good view of the lake, with the Giessbach and other falls, and of the snowy peaks of the Faulhorn. The town is chiefly noted for its wood carvings, its cheeses, and its tourists. The church is on a rocky height, there are the ruins of a castle, and the Planalpbach fall is at the back.
