Bothwell

Bothwell, a village in Scotland, Lanarkshire, is situated on the Clyde, about eight miles S.E. of Glasgow. The river is here crossed by Bothwell Bridge, the scene of the battle so named between Monmouth and the Covenanters in 1679. Near the village are the ruins of Bothwell Castle, a former stronghold of the Douglases, and Bothwellhaugh, whence was named James Hamilton, the regent Murray's assassin.
