Bochum, the capital of the circle of the same name in the Government of Arnsberg, Prussian Westphalia, 26 miles N.E. of Dusseldorf, and on the railway from Duisburg to Dortmund. There are coal-mines, large steel works, and factories for making woollen cloths, carpets, kerseymeres, and hardware, especially lamps and coffee-mills.
