Birlas

Birlas, a Tatarised Mongolian tribe, settled in Transoxiana since the twelfth century. Timur Beg (Tamerlane) was son of the chief of this tribe, who resided at Kesh, 30 miles S. of Samarkand, where Timur was born in 1336.
