Bicetre
Bicetre, a celebrated hospital on the south side of Paris, on a hill overlooking the Seine. Originally built by Louis IX. as a Carthusian monastery, it was occupied by John Bishop of Winchester in 1290 (the name is a corruption of that of his see), destroyed in 1632 and rebuilt by Louis XIV. as a hospital for old soldiers. It is now used as a lunatic asylum for bad cases.
