Bicarbonates

Bicarbonates, salts of the acid H2C03, in which only one-half of the total quantity of hydrogen is replaced by a metal. The sodium salt NaHCO3 is largely used, and is prepared by action of carbon dioxide upon ordinary soda crystals. It is also the first product in the manufacture of soda by the ammonia process.
