Bertrand Elie
Bertrand, Elie, was born in the Pays du Vaud in 1712, and became a distinguished Protestant preacher and writer. In the latter years of his life he adopted with ardour the study of geology, and was one of the early pioneers in that science. He wrote several works on the structure of mountains, on earthquakes, and on fossils, and died in 1777.
