Berenicecities

Berenice (cities), the name of many cities in the East, so called in honour of various princesses. 1. Berenice in Grenaica, now Bengazi (q.v.). 2. Berenice in the Thebaid on the Red Sea, once a great centre of trade with Asia. 3. Berenice or Arsinoe on the Straits of Bab-el-Mandeb.
