Benningsen Rudolphvon
Benningsen, Rudolph von, was born at Luneberg in 1824, and after a successful start as an advocate became judge at Gottingen, but in 1856 abandoned that position for a political career, leading the Opposition in the Hanoverian Parliament. When Hanover was annexed he became a member of the Prussian Chamber and of the Reichstag, and in 1870-71 he conducted important negotiations in S. Germany and at Versailles for the establishment of the empire. In 1873 he was chosen president of the Prussian House of Deputies. He has long been one of the leaders of the National Liberal party.
