Belemnoteuthidae
Belemnoteuthidae, a second family of the Phragmophora, in which the "guard" is reduced to a thin shelly layer surrounding the "phragmocone." The principal genus is Belemnoteuthis, of which some specimens from the Oxford clay have preserved traces of the soft parts, and thus have done much to elucidate the structure of the family and its allies. The family is extinct, and lived only in the Trias and Jurassic periods.
