Beckmann

Beckmann, Johann, was born in 1739, and educated at Gottingen, where in 1770 he was appointed professor of rural economy, and by his lectures and numerous treatises did much towards the creation of scientific agriculture. His best known work, however, is a History of Inventions, which has been translated into several languages. He died in 1811.
