Beaugency

Beaugency an old town in the department of Loiret, France, about 14 miles S.W. of Orleans, on the right bank of the Loire, having a station on the railway to Tours. The chateau was formerly the seat of the lords of Beaugency, whose domain was absorbed by the Crown in the 13th century. There is a ruin known as Caesar's Tower. Joan of Arc took the town from the English in 1429. It enjoys a considerable trade in corn, wine, and agricultural produce.
