Baroda

Baroda, the capital of the Gaekwar's dominions in Western India, and the residence of the British political agent appointed by the Bombay Government. It is situated on the river Biswamnitri, 231 miles N. of Bombay, with which it is connected by railway, and is surrounded by a double wall with towers. The Hindu temples are remarkably fine, and a considerable trade is done in the bazaars. A British force of some strength is quartered here.
