Barletta

Barletta, a port in the province of Terra di Bari, Italy. It is situated on a small island in the Gulf of Venice, 33 miles N. of Bari. and is connected with the mainland by a bridge. The streets are broad and well paved, and the houses are of dressed stone. The Gothic cathedral is supported by curious granite columns. The little harbour does some trade in salt, fruit, almonds, liquorice, and local produce.
