Arcturus
Arcturus, a Bootes, the chief star in the constellation Bootes. It is of the first magnitude, and at an approximate distance of 3,000 billion miles. The amount of heat received from Arcturus has been roughly estimated by direct experiment, it being found to equal that of a 3-inch cube of boiling water at a distance of about 400 yards.
