Andrieux

Andrieux, Francois Guillaume Jean Stanislas, born in 1759. As a member of the Council of Five Hundred (1798) he acted with moderation and independence. In 1802 he was ousted by Napoleon from the Tribunat. He now devoted himself wholly to literature, and in 1829 he was chosen perpetual secretary of the Academy, and he died in harness four years later. Among his sixteen plays, Les Etourdis, Le Tresor, and La Comedienne are the best known. His stories in prose and verse met with much success.
