Ancelot

Ancelot, Jacques Arsene Francois, a French dramatist, was born at Havre in 1794, and held a small official post. In 1819 he made a great hit with a tragedy entitled Louis IX., which was followed by Fiesco and Le Roi Faineant. After 1830 he devoted his talents to comedy, producing Le Regent, Madame Du Barry, Maria Padilla, and many other popular pieces, besides novels and poems. He was elected to the Academy in 1841, and died in 1854.
