Anadyomene
Anadyomene (Greek, rising out of), the epithet applied to Aphrodite, who was supposed to have been born of the sea foam. The celebrated picture by Apelles, Aphrodite Anadyomene, was placed, in the temple of AEsculapius at Cos, and afterwards in the temple of Venus at Rome.
