Alkanet

Alkanet, the commercial name of two distinct plants, both used in dyeing. True Alkanet is obtained from the Lamsonia inermis, the macerated leaves of which yield a yellow dye. False Alkanet, obtained from another plant the Anchusa tinctoria, is the more important of the two; it furnishes a brilliant violet dye, and contains a violet colouring matter known as Anchusin.
