Alarm

Alarm, or Alaeum (Ital. all 'arme, to arms), either a call to arms by means of a trumpet, as in Shakespeare's historical plays, or a mechanical contrivance, generally in the form of an attachment to a clock, which awakens sleepers at any particular hour they may desire.
