Aigues Mortes
Aigues Mortes (Aquae Moetuae), so called from the neighbouring lagoons caused by the mouth of the Rhone, a town in the department of the Gard, France. It is 3 miles from the Mediterranean, and 21 miles S.W. of Nimes. The inhabitants are principally occupied in fishing, and the produce is exported via the Grand Roubine Canal.
