Adullamites

Adullamites, the name given to a political party which arose in 1866, and was led by Mr. Lowe (Lord Sherbrooku), who objected to some of the proposals of Mr. Gladstone's Franchise Bill. The term was one of derision, referring to David's sojourn in the Cave of Adullam, when he was followed by all who were "in distress, in debt, or discontented."
