Achene

Achene, or Achaenium (from the Greek, meaning "not splitting"), an indehiscent, superior, dry one-chambered, and one-seeded fruit or carpel. The fruit of the buttercup is a collection (etaerio) of achenes, and that of the strawberry only differs in the fleshy mass supporting the achenes.
