Wright, Wilbur. Aeronaut. Born near Millville, IN, April 16, 1867. Son of a clergyman. Was educated in high schools of Richmond, IN, and Dayton, OH. From 1903 to 1912, engaged with his brother Orville in a scientific and experimental study of the possibilities of the heavier-than-air flying machine, patented by Wright Bros. in the leading countries of the world. Made numerous flights in United States and abroad. Sold a machine to the United States government for $30,000. Awarded gold medal by French Academy of Sciences, 1909; also many others. The brothers achieved remarkable results. They completely demonstrated the practicability of the heavier-than-air machine. Died 1912.
