Wallace, Lewis. Born in 1827. American general diplomatist, lawyer, and author. He served as first lieutenant in the Mexican War. Engaged in the practice of law in Indiana from 1848. Became a brigadier-general in 1861. Served through the Civil War. From 1881 to 1885 he was United States minister to Turkey. Author of "The Fair God," "Ben Hur," "The Boyhood of Christ," "The Prince of India." Lewis Wallace died in 1905.
