Williams, John Sharp. Senator. Born in Memphis, TN, July 30, 1854. Educated in Kentucky Military Institute, University of the South, University of Virginia, and University of Heidelberg, German. Studied law at University of Virginia and in Memphis, TN. Admitted to Tennessee bar, 1877. Removed to Yazoo City, MI, 1878 where he practiced law. Was also a cotton planter; delegate to Democratic national conventions, 1892, 1904; temporary chairman of St. Louis Convention, July 6-9, 1904; member of Congress from Mississippi 1893-1911; elected United States senator for term 1911-17, re-elected 1917-23.
