Underwood, Oscar W. Democratic floor leader of the House of Representatives. Was born in Louisville, Kentucky, 1862. Educated at Rugby School, Louisville, and at the University of Virginia. Admitted to the bar, 1884. Member of 54th to 63rd congresses (1895-1915), 9th Alabama district. Chairman of the House committee that framed the Underwood-Simmons Tariff Bill in 1913. Elected U.S. senator for term 1915-21.
