Ptolemaeus Claudius. Flourished about 139. Alexandrian writer, author of the "Almagest" or "Syntax of Astronomy," the theories of which were accepted until the discoveries of Copernicus. He also wrote a "Geography" which, for 13 centuries, was the leading authority.
