Jugurtha. A king of Numidia at the end of the 2nd century BC. Jugurtha was the grandson of Masinissa, but illegitimate. Was brought up by Micipsa, along with his own sons, and left a share of the kingdom by him at his death. Jugurtha, however, murdered both of them, and made himself master of the whole. The Romans, therefore, made war upon him; after a long struggle he was conquered, made prisoner, led in triumph by Marius, and starved to death in prison at Rome, 104 BC.
