Clinton, Sir Henry. An English general, succeeded Sir William Howe as commander-in-chief in America. Was born in 1738. His course was marked by bravery and good conduct, but not with success. After his return to England, he was appointed governor of Limerick, and subsequently of Gibraltar, where he died in 1795.
